Quote: "I feel that no one can lead
another to truth, because truth is infinite; it is a pathless land, and no one
can tell you how to find it. No one can teach you to be an artist; another can only
give you the brushes and canvas and show you the colours to use." -J. Krishnamurti, 1933
"There is no charge for awesomeness or attractiveness." Po (Kung Fu Panda) 2008
Q: How did you get into parkour?
A: One Sunday, a good friend told me
about an article in the paper on a "new" sport called parkour and it might be something I would
be interested in. I quickly grabbed the paper and read the article detailing a local group that
had been training and teaching for some time and was about to host a National Jam downtown. I
couldn't make it to see the Jam, but after reading the article I was hooked, so I went to the
Colorado Parkour website and signed-up. Ever since then I've been training, running, jumping,
rolling, you know.
Q: What is your most memorable parkour moment?
A: I'm not going to lie, the first
images that come to my mind are those that involve some crash and burns but I think one of the
more memorable moments was last summer when my good friend and fellow traceur Ahmed came
to visit. We were working really hard on multiple skills and trying to find ways to improve
our techniques and training methods. It was the constant trail and error, discussions on
what we could do better or different, and listening to the advice we gave to each other that
we started to figure out what we were doing. This was a great moment because I realized this
is the essence of parkour. Teaching, learning, and helping each traceur and traceus find
their way while finding your own. This mind set is what I employ every time I train.
Q: What do you like most about parkour?
A: The community surrounding parkour
is awesome. I've meet people from all over and it seems that there is an overall sense
of togetherness everyone shares. We all study parkour for our own reasons but there is
a common goal of progression in our skills that we each strive to achieve. It's great
to practice with others because everyone has something that they are particularly good
at and when you train with them you get a chance to experience it. And, through training
with others we each get a chance to express ourselves truthfully and honestly.
Q: If you could go anywhere in the world for
parkour, where would it be?
A: I've been fortunate enough to have
traveled a little to Mexico, China, and Australia and meet some great people along the way, but
I would love to go to France and meet the Yamakasi and train with them. Honestly though, I
think going anywhere in the world, be it in North America, the EU, Russia, Asia Pacific, or
Africa, it would be a fantastic opportunity to train with people from any of those places.
Q: Is there anything else you would like to share with other traceurs?
A: To live parkour everyday and in everything
that I do. I would like to eventually pass along this passion to others either through training
or motivating them in their own passions. Or, become the owner of a small continent; say Asia
and rule with an iron fist - HAHA. Yeah, I think I'll go with my first idea, seems less
painful and more rewarding.
